On May 4, 5, and 6, 2007 the annual Penryn Tournament was held with six teams entered from across the county.   Two of those teams were the two Hempfield Black 14U teams.   Hard work paid off as both teams played each other for the championship game on Sunday afternoon.   The Hempfield Black team from the Penn Manor League (shown in the white shirts) repeated as Penryn Tournament Champions beating the Hempfield Black team from the Susquehanna League (shown in the black shirts).   The Black team from the Penn Manor League is coached by Jerry Byers and his team included Jon Martin, Mitch Bachman, Steve Feister, Brent Pickell, Brandon Hickey, Jordan Neff, Ryan Knox, Sean Snyder, Dylan Gromen, Eric Slaugh, Blaise DeLuca, and Brandon Bertoli.   The Black team from the Susquehanna League is coached by Dan Brookhart and his team included Dylan Manning, Dan Hostetter, Ben Peachey, Charlie Raffensberger, Doug Totaro, Luke Gatti, Mike Brookhart, Lee Eckert, Nick Oberholtzer, Derek Totaro, and Mark Feiler.

The Hempfield Red 12 & Under team battled through the first three games behind a a strong defense and a balanced batting attack; however, come up just a few runs short against a determined Rheems Lightening team to finish as Runner Up in the 6th Annual Columbia Softball Tournament.  The girls proudly represented HYA by displaying great team spirit and sportsmanship during a very grueling tournament weekend.

the 12 & Under Red team for a successful tournament!

After going undefeated within their division (11-1 overall), the Hempfield Red 12B team defeated the East Pete Phillies in the semi-finals to advance to the Donegal/Rheems Pre-Teen B Championship game played on Friday, June 30th.  Red faced a dominant Rheems Lightening team (12-0 overall)...who was the only team to be Red during the season.  After falling behind early, Red took the lead in the 6th inning only to see a determined Rheems team score 3 runs to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th.  With the bases loaded in the extra inning, Morgan Buterbaugh blasted a double to deep centerfied to spark a 5-run rally.   Rheems' top of the order came to bat in the bottom of the 8th and loaded the bases; however, they were unable to score any runners due to 2 key strikeouts thrown by Rachael Herman and the corralling of a hard hit grounder by 2nd baseman Kendall Beck.  Members fo the 2006 Hempfield Red Team are: Taylor Bakal, Kendall Beck, Sarah Beck, Megan Bramlitt, Megan Brey, Miriam Brighton, Morgan Buterbaugh, Rebecca DeSantis, Rachael Herman, Kelli Kensinger, Rylie Knox, and Briana Swift.

The 12 & Under Hempfield Black girls softball team are the champions of the Manor Ridge 12 & Under tournament held 5/20 thru 5/21.   The team played extremely well in winning the five out of six games necessary to be the champs.   The girls were down 4-1 in the championship game after the third inning to the number one seeded Warwick Cyclones.   The team rallied to win 10-5 including a bases loaded triple by lead off batter Nichole Reikhard.

The 10 & Under Hempfield Black girls softball team are the champions of the Marietta 10 & Under tournament held 5/5 thru 5/7 at Marietta's War Memorial Field.   The team played extremely well in winning the four games necessary to be the champs. The girls beat Mountville 14-3 and Maytown 13-7 on Saturday May 6th.   The girls beat a tough Manheim team 5-1 in Sunday's semi-finals and then capped off the weekend championship with a 14-3 win over Columbia.
